Aaron Velayo

MUSIC INSTRUCTOR - MUSIC DEPARTMENT COORDINATOR

Aaron Velayo is an experienced musician and educator from Redwood City, California. His musical journey began at the age of eight when he first picked up the drums, eventually leading him to the Riekes Center at 12 as a music student. Immersing himself in band classes, Aaron quickly grew within the Riekes community, taking on leadership roles and becoming a prominent musician. He later attended Berklee College of Music, where he fell in love with teaching while studying. Aaron graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and returned to Riekes as a Music Instructor before taking on the additional role of the Music Department Coordinator.

In addition to his work as an educator, Aaron is a professional musician, regularly gigging & recording in the Bay Area. His approach to teaching focuses on cultivating a student's joy and connection with music before diving into deep technical practice, believing that the love of music should always come first.

Aaron's passion for music is palpable in everything he does. His love for the art form shines through whether teaching, performing, or recording. His mission as a musician and educator is to share the joy, healing, and self-discovery that music brings, inspiring others to enrich their lives through creative expression.
